Cover Art : Mocky ft. GZA - “Birds Of A Feather (remix)”

This song made its way it my weekly playlist over at The Volume and I thought it was perfect to adapt to something for this cover art series. The one Gza verse is very short, but classic Wu, and I wanted to highlight the lyrics there instead of trying to find some great feather image. Styling comes via some letter press work, once again in an email from Grain Edit. The inspiration started off from the letter press work of Mikey Burton. My work was obviously done in photo shop, but I attempted to use enough subtle layers to give it that same sort of styling. Once again, like the Drake piece, I ripped the color scheme (minus the blue hues) direct from Burton’s piece. For the initial background texture I took a google image of a feather, blew it way up and punched it down to a simple curving line texture. Lettering was done in Indesign and ported over, and the piece has paint splattered in various shades to give is a more worn look. Below, my scratch sheet for this project.
