A Day with 3Sixteen

Our friend Andrew at 3sixteen had this great video put together by Sarah Krusen showing some behind the scenes footage of their day-to-day life. Sarah previously shot the 3sixteen lookbook and has done another great job with this project. Be sure to check out the latest from the crew at their new work/sale space Self Edge. (via)

I would like to find a new roommate that will:

- be ok with having this in our living room
- have a love of polaroid photos
- sit around watching movies + painting with me
- love to hang out, dance + listen to records
- enjoy going to flea markets + fixing up the treasures we find
- eat breakfast for dinner
- doesn’t mind watching Wes Anderson movies over + over
- be ok with the fact that I’m always taking pictures + videos
- go along with the crazy ideas/adventures I conjure up
- love going to art and music shows
- etc etc etc etc

This would be my idea of the perfect roommate. Does this kind of person exist? In Los Angeles? I need to find them. I’m ready for a new situation. Although it’s nice to have my place all to myself so much, I’d really love to actually live with someone. This could be my craigslist ad.

Oh man, that is pretty much a perfect roommate. Folhouse, let’s make this tent!

None of this would be unexpected at KeapHope. You may just need to add in:
- ok with lots of house guests
- will drink beer on mondays

Peek of my favorite new piece of furniture we’re creating with Amanda Visell.

Paul Bundnitz, president and founder of Kid Robot, has his own tumblr, showing off some cool behind the scenes photos like the one above, and links, photos and video that should provide inspiration and a nice addition to your dashboard.
Hey Paul, next time you’re in New York you up for an interview?

Gawker Artists presents NSFW (Not Safe for Work)
I have a feeling Dan will be looking forward to this one. Press release, RSVP info below:
Opening ReceptionThursday, January 287-9 pm 210 Elizabeth Street, 4th FloorRSVP to artists@gawker.com Gawker Artists presents NSFW (Not Safe For Work), a group show of works by Gawker Artists Steve Ellis, Emiliano Granado, Justine Lai, Heather Morgan and Randy Polumbo, and the latest exhibition in the Art@Gawker series.Featuring sexually suggestive works typically considered off limits for the workplace, NSFW showcases Gawker Artists’ playful irreverence and ongoing exploration of the boundaries and roles of corporate art programs.Steve Ellis’ Amanda Lepore Stripping Pen is inspired by Lepore’s own story of transsexual transformation. Ellis’ iconic painting celebrates both a common object and the reinvention of sexual identity. In Ellis’ own words, “This portrait on the surface looks like a curvy porn star, but instead the model is a sculpted sexual being and work of art unto herself.”Emiliano Granado’s photographs document the raucous atmosphere of spring break, capturing the many desperate ploys for attention and culpability of the crowd in encouraging booze fueled hedonism. Granado’s matter-of-fact perspective highlights the vulgar realities of this modern American phenomenon. In her ongoing series Join or Die, Justine Lai paints herself having sex with the U.S. Presidents in chronological order. By objectifying these revered faces, Lai’s striking and comical portraits explore the nature of power. Lai examines her own identity through the lens of American history, exploring and asserting herself through imaginary pleasure, dominance, liberty, and control.Heather Morgan’s lush paintings elicit feelings of confrontation, vulnerability and empathy. Her unconventional female figures challenge common ideals of beauty and sexuality. Drawn in by their defiant gazes, the viewer is invited behind the curtain into the lives of Morgan’s confident, yet dysfunctional subjects.Randy Polumbo’s provocative sculptures made from replicas of mass market sex toys inspire, in his own words, “questions of beauty, libidinal economies, and propagation … from the contrast between our public faces and private appetites.” Polumbo’s works, which at first glance seem more alien than erotic, require a double take before realizing their actual implications. Each of the works in NSFW recontextualizes its subject, inspiring new interpretations of their beauty, intention and importance via timeless isolation and mischievous tribute. Simultaneously uncomfortable, shocking, and humorous, the works force the viewer to question their own definitions of sexual objects and acts. As a whole, NSFW questions the meaning, role, and audience of sexually provocative art work, in the context of a corporate setting which commonly avoids works that are not safe.NSFW is curated by sisters, Genevieve and Liz Dimmitt. Generic Surplus Spring inspiration wall
via arkitip
I love the idea of doing this. Getting all those ideas out and in a place where you have to look at them everyday is a great way to work. It is interesting how the things around you, from clutter, to art and clippings, can really influence your ideas. We’ve written out thought boards ourselves, and its something I glance at at least once a day to remember what it is I really want to be working on.

Pants on the ground…

Sadly, this was watched live at the KeapHope office. It got a decent laugh from all in attendance, and we all felt shame for watching American Idol together. Hopefully this doesn’t catch on around the crib in the same way as this little number has. I don’t know if I can take both of them being played non-stop.

Thanks to SmokingSection for putting up the vid.

My man Albie is always laying down some thought.. Here’s a post of his I though was on point and dope.

talking about.

mysteries.
unknowns.
smokescreens.
secrets.
universe.
university.
adversity
verse.
prose.
verse.
chorus.
verse.
war.
versus.
change.
constants.
unification.
how-to’s.
future exploits.
heroic boasts.
schematics, blueprints, layouts.
instructions. hopes. dreams. fantasies.
plans.
one uni-verse, in a meta-text.
…yes, that’s how it works.
inside my head, i mean.
all day long.
part cockney rhyming slang,
part free-association vocabulary test,
part puzzle.
part interconnected sequential serials,
part disconnected serious consequence…
what the F* am i talking about?
i’m talking about making moves.
i’m talking about making sense.
i’m talking about trusting in the right action of righteous real-life.
i’m talking about the big picture.
i don’t want to miss out, after all.
why don’t YOU try figuring out an explanation for
the secret universal plan?
you can’t,
not really,at least, not all the way.
i mean, it’s a secret, yeah?
and it’s everywhere and nowhere.
and that makes it hard.
(that’s what she said)
seriously though, duders,
it’s out there, and it’s in here.
and just about everywhere else.
especially the woodsly goodness.
i’m sayin’,
i keep the faith.
i keep it real.
i keep it on the-up-and-up.
and somehow, also on the down-low.
most of all, though,
i can keep a secret like nobody’s business.
that’s the truth.
i doo-doo that sh!t,
never quiet, never soft…..
