Che Grand X Graffiti Beach PhotoMan I love seeing stuff like this. At work, stealing a few minutes, and diggin’ around a few of my favorite hip-hop sites and what do I see? The homie Che Grand posing with cardboard shark. Photo taken by Dan Dealy at the super fun Graffiti Beach party. I sent this over to Dealy and he immediately got hype for the next event. That’s right. A bigger, better, party coming in October.

Axe Music presents: TI, King among kings

On Monday night the King of the South let the world know he was ready to take back his thrown with a special Axe Music performance at Capitale in the Lower East Side. The recently incarcerated rapper pulled out all the stops for his first stage performance in New York since his release, rocking alongside what he called the other “Kings” of the game. During a close to two hour set filled with firey emotion and non-stop energy, TI brought out the “King of Harlem,” Cam’ron, along with the Cam’s latest protege Vado, followed by Maino, Swizz Beatz, Kerri Hilson, Grand Hustle’s own B.o.B. and the Queen of hip-hop soul, Mary J. Blige. It was a stage show so big we had to share it. Check out the video above for a taste of TI and friends celebrating the return of the much missed charisma of TIP.

I originally wrote and shot this for Time Out’s music blog, The Volume, but they have been slow to post, so until they do, here it is for ya.

Apologies on the audio, new video file coming, issue with the upload.
Fixed!

Graffiti Beach: Who got the props?
We’ve done a lot of these photo booth setups. Truth be told the excuse to throw back a few, dance and take pictures has been the strong foundation of more then one KeapHope party, and it was the driving force behind what Graffiti Beach will be. We are having a dope custom graffiti backdrop finished Friday night to drop into the backyard of Good Company for all of our guests to get a truly excellent photo taken in front of. With both Dan Dealy and MikeOnTheRocks snappin’ away, it’s sure to be a good time.
How can you the guest make it even better? Bring a prop. Nothing makes a photo session more fun then something ridiculous to pose with. Over-sized anything, strange hats, awesome sunglasses, a cool watch. You bring a great a prop to pose with and we just might trade you for it with one of our own awesome giveaways, courtesy of Nooka and Nerf.
If you haven’t, make sure you RSVP by email or Facebook.

G-Shock, Shock the World Event at Manhattan Center

by whizhouse August 5, 2010

Monday night KeapHope ran through the Manhattan Center to check out the the latest from the ever growing watch company G-Shock. Up top you can catch a quick peak at the event as shot by karmaloop.com that features a few industry heads talking about the new line expansion and their direct involvement within G-Shock. This video was originally posted on Hypebeast, running with the lone comment: “Show the Watches, not the egos.” Ouch. Well, without going into to details on the watches themselves (sorry commenter) I did want to touch on the event itself. Overall, G-shock kills it with their parties. The last event at the Bowery for Dee & Ricky was a smash, featuring an impromptu performance from the homie Donnis and great music and food. This stop at the Manhattan Center was more of the same greatness with food and drink, and a little turn to the left with the performer of the night, Kesha. Long before Kesha was set to take the stage G-Shock did the press friendly walk through and had the celebs like Lamar Odom and his mistake of a squeeze as well as the afternoon drive queen turned morning TV host Wendy Williams (How you doing?). A fun time for all, that was more party in a venue then show in a venue, but that was easy to ignore with great music from DJ Cassidy, a number of friends in the building and again, awesome drinks from Absolut, naming all the specialty cocktails after G-Shock related brands.

Hit the jump for a video clip of Kesha’s performance and an extended recap

When it comes to the big summer concert festivals, everyone may be keeping an eye on the stage, but sometimes its as much about checking out the crowd as it is your favorite artists throwing it down.

Between sets and while walking the grounds we kept the camera flashing to capture some of the fresh looks that made up the nearly 10,000 in attendance at Hard Fest 2010. Click below the jump to see a selection of our favorites and head on over to Facebook to see the FULL GALLERY. Spot yourself in any of the photos? HardFest 2k10 New York

by dandealy July 26, 2010

This Saturday Jamie and Dan made the trek out to Governor’s Island to catch one of the only festival style concerts happening in the New York area this summer: Hard Fest 2010. A show with a lot of heat, local standouts, some fresh kits and a disappointing headliner in MIA still made for one fun day. Our mini-review and gallery is up over at Time Out New York but we have a couple galleries hitting you here at KH as well. Below the jump, check some of Dan Dealy’s favorites from the show and stay tuned for a gallery of some of the beautifully weird people that made up the crowd at Hard Fest to hit the site within the hour.

It was a bit hellish to get out to the show with some strange ferry arrangement, mile+ walks around the perimeter of the island and hassling security doing shoe searches but we had a great time. The show was made for us early on catching some KeapHope favorites in Ninjasonik followed by Theophlius London, Sleigh Bells and the group we were most excited to see, Die Antwoord. A bunch of KeapHopers made the journey to see them last night at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and shared the same impression we did of the groups super polished version of “we don’t give a fuck.” The may be a bit hard to understand in their seriousness but they certainly bring a level of interest to music, especially in the digital space, that we haven’t really seen yet. It was sad to see such a strong set followed by a unenthused MIA who seemed to drive a good portion of the crowd out the door early. After a solid 6+ hours on the fair grounds we left only 20 minutes into her set, but were far from the only ones, joining a solid number of attendees who opted for an early boat back to Manhattan.

Enjoy the stage selects below and stay tuned for some crowd shots coming at you today.

Andy Suzuki and the Method - 300 Pianos remix

Disclaimer - the video above is all for fun, a take on a serious song, by a band with some serious talent. Long time KeapHope friend Kozza is the serious dude on the right just straight screwing up in the out takes that you need to watch till the end to catch. Our reason for posting this? The guys have a fantastic show upcoming on July 31st at Joe’s Pub and we think that this fun lovin’ video is as good a reason to check the show as any. From the press release:

Unfortunately this season’s greatest strength - the blazin sun - is also its greatest weakness. Here’s how we’ve been dealing with the heat:

1. Having clothing optional rehearsals

2. Having clothing options post-rehearsal cuddle sessions.

3. Wearing our Andy Suzuki & The Method T-Shirts all the time

4. Promoting the hottest show of the summer:

And Suzuki & The Method. NYC. Joe’s Pub.

425 Lafayette St, btwn E 4th St & Astor Place, $12 advance, $14 day of

If that’s not enough reason to check the show (and buy a t-shirt) check the crew’s killer cover of Drizzy’s breakthrough hit below:
