WPP reppin’ with the keaphope crew, makes his way out to sample the famed Corner Bistro burger. No Sunday burger sample would be complete without a bevy of beers. Stay tuned till the end to get WPP’s final synopsis on the meal.
I really wanted to hold off on posting this, but it’s too good not to share.
Witness Protection Pat TV : Brooklyn Wings Competition
Keap Hope contributor and resident food expert Witness Protect Pat (WPP) heads out to Greenpoint, BK to check out the Brooklyn Wings Competition and Festival at Red Star Bar. See the sights and wait till the end to see what the only judge who’s opinion matter, WPP, thought of the entire event and the winning wing.
My apologies for the video not actually ending and continuing on with nothing, I blame the snow. More WPP coming soon!
While going through the recent videos MTV has been dropping for the XXL Freshmen 10 list (so far, Wiz Khalifa, Fashawn, Pill, Nipsey Hussle, and J. Cole) I started thinking about how ubiquitous these artists have become among the major hip-hop blogs. By the time XXL comes around to naming their selects it seems the that internet is doing most of the work for them. Every artist named, and I would assume the other nominees, all made appearances throughout the year on my weekly Play Count article over at The Volume, which isn’t even to say I was on top of the talent, just an early adopter willing to download and clog his hard drive with a ton of medicore mixtapes to find the few tracks and artists worth multiple listens. I’m a believer that truly good music, created by talented people, willing to work hard, will stand out over time. By the time XXL is out, most artists on the list have been picked out and diagnosed by a number of writers and critics, much more qualified than I to make predictions of talent.
The idea of being named to this list does seem to hold a lot of importance though, as the names tied to the ‘09 list continue to gain more mainstream exposure, often due to that first magazine cover. Even today itsthereal dropped a video with ‘09 rookie Charles Hamilton taking a few shots at himself in relationship to his troubled year after earning the coveted recognition. Being named to the list opens doors for most and will keep the fans and listeners looking for these few all-stars to break out more quickly than their peers, and as valuable as freshmen mention is, we the internet–commenting, over obsessive, download everything–fans need to remember that it isn’t the end all be all. The brightest and fastest rising star of ‘09 was easily Drake, taking a mixtape released in February for free to an EP major release, Grammy nod and a 2 million dollar deal for his upcoming debut, quickly passing by the Freshman of last year, with a handful who have still yet to release a commercial project.
Still, important or not, for the few that follow these things, its a lot of fun to go through the list and think about who should have and shouldn’t have been on past and upcoming lists. So as the rest of the 2010 freshman slowly leaks out there probably wont be a single name on there that bring about any surprise. Most of these artists have made the rounds, toured major cities and been given co-sign or two by major artists and press before the masses have their issues hit the local newsstand. So while everyone Monday quarterback’s an unsurprising lists over the next month, we want to give you insight to a pick we think is worth checking out, even if they may never see a XXL cover this year, or next.
W’ere talking about the young Philly team of Chiddy Bang. Above you can check out the video for “Opposite of Adults,” a flip of the banger “Kids” by MGMT off of their debut mixtape, The Swelly Express. The tape hasn’t really seen exposure on many of the big hip-hop sites but was presented by OnSmash and sponsored by Crooks & Castles. The tape has one major guest verse with Philly famous Black Thought jumping on “Slow Down” but otherwise tells the ‘true story’ of Chidera Anamege and Xaphoon Jones journey to make it in the industry. We first gave a shout the crew way back in November, and if you missed it then, we think its time you get up on it. Download the mixtape here, and if you dig the video, the behind the scenes clip is down below.
Chiddy Bang will be performing in New York tonight with Mike Posner at Gramercy Theater and at Webster Hall on March 6th alongside another KeapHope favorite, Outasight.

In support of the upcoming HBO comedy/drama, How To Make It In America, cast member Kid Cudi has linked up with DJ Green Lantern to put together a must listen mix for hip-hop and non-hip-hop fans alike with music from Cudi, Johnny Polygon, Phoenix, Chromeo and more–all available for free download. On the mixtape, Cudi also announces he will be working with Green Lantern backed artist Polygon on a remix to his track “Riot Song” in the near future.

Put this short write up together on The Volume for a really fun event last week at BK Bowl with ATL based group The Constellations. I brought along KeapHoper’s Ian, Pat and Burger for some free bowling and beer in which we walked home with not one, but two trophies and morning headaches after way too much beer and margaritas. It may have been the promise of bowling and free beer that got us in the door, but it was hard to ignore the band, who was actually quiet good. The guys themselves were fun too, and pretty easy going bowling alongside bloggers and press and taking some time to answer questions and kick back. Any marketing team looking to break a band and get some good press could learn a lot from this effort from EMI and Cornerstone.
Goose and I hit up the Red Light PR party…and are the only ones to partake in the unlimited free Colt 45. Sure everyone else enjoyed champagne, wine and vodka sodas, but we felt it was only right that we not let the Colt go to waste.
Shout out to everyone we met and chatted with that night: Taryn and Christina from Red Light, Jabari, and Ben from Thrillist. Great party and we’re looking forward to the next one.
I’ve had these photos sitting on my desktop for so long I almost forgot about them. A couple months back after interviewing Nooka founder Matthew Waldman for TONY he invited us over to come by the Nooka offices to check out their operation. We got a preview of the MTV collabo watches, glanced at some sneak peek sketches and work for 2010 and the team was nice enough to give us a couple watches and belts. Check out our slideshow above, showing off their space and Matthew’s great collection of toys, including the hand drawn Munny gifted to him from the Ilovedust crew.
Our friend Andrew at 3sixteen had this great video put together by Sarah Krusen showing some behind the scenes footage of their day-to-day life. Sarah previously shot the 3sixteen lookbook and has done another great job with this project. Be sure to check out the latest from the crew at their new work/sale space Self Edge. (via)
On Friday night, Mr. Solo Dolo took the stage for the second consecutive night in front of a sold-out Irving Plaza. With a 16-plus crowd, Cudi let his inner child loose, pulling off his shirt and dancing his way through a high-energy set (so enthusiastically that his pants damn nearly fell down). Early opening act Consequence brought out Asher Roth to help perform its new track “Childish Games,” featured in last week’s Play Count, but it was the headliner who really shook the house. Cudi performed mostly material off of his major release, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, along with a couple throwbacks to his first (and only) mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi. Between songs, the young MC took the time to address recent issues (like punching fans) in a Kanye-esque rant—all while knocking back shots of Grey Goose, and later rolling one up with his Cleveland cohort, Chip tha Ripper, on their performance of “Hyyer.” Check out our photos from the show above, and get a glimpse of the action in our video recap after the jump.
With some big project potentially coming up for KeapHope its important to make sure we have the right equipment. While this piece may be a bit pricey at $250 it really does look like the ideal addition to our travel kit.
With pro-level stabilization and locking down to under 14 inches it looks super easy to use, and super light thanks to its 6X carbon fiber construction. If anyone at Gitzo wants some field testing, be sure to hit us up.
